Can you withdraw cash for free in Croatia?
Mostly no. Most bank ATMs in Croatia charge foreign cards a fee. All major Croatian banks charge foreign cards €4.65–5.49; smaller banks are not documented individually.

Should I pay in euros or in my home currency?
If your card is in another currency (e.g. GBP, USD or CHF) and the ATM offers a conversion, always choose euro (without conversion). The ATM's own conversion (DCC) often costs 5–10%.
How do I avoid ATM fees in Croatia?
Fees are charged mainly by: Zagrebačka banka (€5.31), OTP banka (€5.49), PBZ (Privredna banka Zagreb) (€4.78), Erste Bank (€4.75). The fee is shown on screen before the withdrawal, so you can still cancel. Use the ATMs marked as free on the map. Avoid Euronet and other independent operators, especially at airports and in tourist areas. Withdraw a larger amount once rather than small amounts several times, and check before your trip what your own bank charges for foreign withdrawals.
